Preparing for imaging examinations

There are different types of imaging examinations—some require no preparation, while for others it is important to follow the patient instructions provided.

Public imaging services are always performed based on a physician’s referral. Imaging is used to investigate the cause of symptoms or to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

Patient instructions for imaging examinations provide important information for those  patients coming in for examinations and procedures. You will receive these instructions from your physician and by mail to your home.

Imaging patient instructions include information such as:

  • how to prepare for the examination

  • what kind of examination or procedure it is

  • what should be aware of after the examination

Please read the patient instructions carefully and well in advance before coming to the imaging examination.

Accessibility has been considered in imaging facilities where possible. If needed, please check the accessibility of your examination location in advance.
