Problems with sweating in diabetes

Sweating disorders are caused by many different things, but damage to the autonomic nervous system can also reduce or increase sweating.

The autonomic nervous system regulates the functions of the sweat glands. Disorders can either reduce or increase sweating. Bursts of sweating normally occur in the head and the upper body areas, especially after a meal or at night. Strong blood sugar fluctuations can increase the symptoms.

If the symptoms are severe, one treatment option is botulinum toxin injections.

In the lower limbs, dry skin on the soles of the feet can be an indication that there is not enough sweating. It is important to apply cream to the feet on a daily basis to keep the skin supple and protect any places where the skin is broken.
