Nerve damage of urine and sexual functions in diabetes

The autonomic nervous system regulates bladder control and sexual functions. Damage to the autonomic nervous system can cause either to dysfunction.

The symptoms of damage to the autonomic nervous system include, for example, various forms of bladder dysfunction. For instance, person may not feel the need to urinate even though the bladder is full. Or when urinating, the bladder is only partially emptied. If a person is unable to urinate normally, repeated catheterisation of the bladder may become a necessity.

There are many different reasons for the retention of urine. Some medicines may even be predisposition to it. And so urinary organ symptoms often require further urological examinations.

Erectile dysfunction can be caused by damage to the autonomic nervous system, but the cause for the dysfunction is often down to several different factors. If a person has trouble with getting an erection, the issue should be discussed at a diabetes appointment. The treatment entails normal erectile dysfunction (ED) treatments. But first, the cause of the symptom is sought to be determined.
