Identifying risk foot in diabetes

Everyone with diabetes should have a foot risk assessment included in the basic foot examination at least once a year.

The risk of a person with diabetes of a long-term foot ulcer as well as the required monitoring and guidance can be estimated and planned on the basis of the foot risk assessment.

The risk category is determined on the basis of nerve damage, changes in circulation, posture faults and changes in strain. In the risk assessment, the feet are grouped into risk categories 0–1–2–3. If your feet are in risk category 1–3, they are at risk, and the risk of severe foot problems is increased. Good self-care of your feet is important, and people with diabetes need professional foot therapy services provided by health care.
