PPSHP is the northernmost university hospital district in Finland. It serves the residents of 29 member municipalities. It also covers the entire Northern Finland catchment area for highly specialised medical care, producing services for approximately 740,000 customers. There are two hospitals which service the hospital district: Oulu University Hospital (OYS) and Oulankangas Hospital. Emergency care services are available 24/7 in Oulu, Oulainen and Kuusamo.

PPSHP Emergency Departments
There are three departments in PPSHP providing emergency care 24/7. In addition, the joint emergency department services at Oulu University Hospital provide specialised emergency care. Oulaskangas Hospital provides certain specialised emergency care services and primary emergency care services for its own area. Kuusamo has an emergency department at the health centre. |

PPSHP emergency medical care
The emergency medical care is coordinated by the PPSHP Emergency medical care unit and the services are provided by regional Rescue Departments. Physician-led prehospital care is provided in collaboration with air ambulance company FinnHEMS Oy. |
