Sudden illness or injury

The chain of care of an prehospital care patient typically begins with sudden illness or injury.

The different symptoms and injuries require immediate or urgent care. Immediate or urgent care is needed if a person is unconscious or unresponsive, there has been an accident, a person has sudden chest pain or difficulty breathing, or has stroke symptoms. Some symptoms and situations do not require immediate or urgent care, but the person may still need medical attention given by paramedics.
