All studies requiring materials from Helsinki Biobank must undergo an ethical review before an application for samples can be submitted to the Biobank. The request for an ethical review is done using the “Tutkijan Työpöytä”-platform, found at https://tutkija.hus.fi/.
If Helsinki Biobank is able to provide you with the samples and data needed for your research, you should inform the Biobank of your wish to continue the process. The Biobank will then provide you with detailed instructions on the documents needed for the ethical review and how the “Tutkijan Työpöytä” platform should be filled in when your research is based on Biobank material.
The “Tutkijan Työpöytä”-platform requires a Finnish ID number for the user to be able to log in. If your research group has no Finnish collaborators, Helsinki Biobank’s personnel will fill in the form for you.
The ethical review takes approximately one month to be completed. Depending on the funding sources and the nature of the study, there may be a fee for the ethical review (STM lausuntomaksuasetus 840/2010).
