Vocational rehabilitation in diabetes

Employee pension institutions and Kela arrange professional rehabilitation to prevent a person becoming unable to work as well as to improve their work ability and earning capacity, if there is a risk of incapacity for work resulting from disease or injury.

Professional rehabilitation can be offered to a person who is either entering the workforce or has been absent from it for a long time or who is finding it hard to cope with work and is therefore in danger of becoming incapable for work.

If a person with diabetes is struggling to cope with work, the need for basic training, further training or retraining as well as the opportunities for implementing it are established. Professional rehabilitation funded by the employee pension institution is a statutory benefit. If necessary, the employee pension institution will refer the person to rehabilitation provided by Kela.
